This is a very definite possibility.  My first impression, however, 
was that the flicker in Sirius' eyes was nostalgia.  Maybe at some 
point in his youth, Sirius said something similar in defending James, 
or James stood up for Sirius.  He recognizes the deep sense of 
loyalty between Ron, Harry, and Hermione and is (probably bitterly, 
since I believe he still thinks Lupin is the traitor) reminded of his 
friendship with James and Remus, and maybe Peter.

BTW, this is my first post...I am so impressed and overwhelmed with 
all of the discussions going on, I had no idea where to start!  
(Thanks to Tabouli's TOADKEEPER, I'll never look at Neville and his 
pet in the same way again!) Hope this bit of input is ok.
