For one thing - he could not use someone else's hand: it had to be 
*willingly* given - he was immortal, but weak;

I'd say he owes Pettigrew a debt-- but it's *not* a life-debt. He was 
an immortal - now he's a mortal again!

But Pettigrew is in debt to Harry (I doubt V knows that) -- wonder 
what effect that fact has to Voldemort.
