My belief is that there must be anti-summoming spells in place over
the egg and this was probably explained offpage as Harry, Moody, and
not even Hermione considered it. I can easily pictuer Hermione
objecting, "You to learn a summoning charm? But the prize surely has
a counter charm for that!"
I'm guessing anti-accio charms are well accepted at Hogwart's.
Otherwise it would be much easier to get the Polyjuice Potion
ingredients in book 2 (Yes I know they haven't learned it yet) but
Moody would have used accio to summon the same ingredients in Book 4.
Instead, he had to physically enter Snape's Office (Possibly wearing
his own invisibility cloak.)
Could you omagine the mischief, Fred & George could get into if there
weren't anti-accio charms? Why go to the kitchens if you could just
summon sweets? A dishonest student could summon the contents of
Honeyduke's or Zonko's from Hogsmeade without paying... Or steal
teacher's tests or forbidden books, etc.
WORSE Draco knew about Harry's invisibility cloak. Could you imagine
Draco stealing Harry's cloak? or by using the opposite banishment
could he plant contraband in Harry's room and accuse him of some
crime? If this was possible, Draco might try this as early as book
two by paying an older Slytherin to plant incriminating evidence.
Remember Harry and Ron were on a sort of probation after the Anglia
Incident.
