I'm not entirely sure, but I think Voldemort was rising in power when the Marauders were in school.  There's a timeline of the entire HP universe that's been compiled from dates mentioned in the books, and ages mentioned by JKR in interviews

It indicates that the Marauders were probably in school in the 1970s and that's around the time Voldemort began to rise in power. It makes it a tough call as to any prejudices existing during their schooling though near the end I'd have to say that there were probably a lot.
