You've all got some great theories about the end of Voldemort,
but I especially agree with what Barb has said here. I've always
imagined that, at the end, Voldemort will be stripped of his
powers (by Harry, of course) and become more human, literally,
by morphing back into a gray-haired Tom Riddle. It would be an
appropriate ending for such a powerful dark wizard to be
reduced to a mere Muggle. Assuming that V's main objective is
to follow in the footsteps of his ancestor in ridding the wizarding
world of Muggle-borns, it also fits in with what I think is the main
theme of the books: racism, how it is born, why it can fester in
society and the consequences it brings.
Then, once Tom Riddle is a Muggle, there are all sorts of fun
ways to kill him. :-) How about a nice, medieval public
beheading in the middle of Hogsmeade square? I realize Harry
is the star and all and there most likely will be a showdown
between he and Voldemort, but it would be nice if Harry didn't
have to shoulder the entire burden of getting rid of Voldemort.
Harry should be essential in his downfall but it would be nice to
see someone else (Voldemort himself?) strike the final blow.
Harry doesn't need any more blood on his hands.
