Unless I'm misunderstanding you, I don't think you can't be an idiot if you have a good memory.  To me, idiot means you lack common sense, something he mentioned in the first quote as well.  The idiots of the world tend to remember things very well, and bring them forward at the worst possible moments, so I think.
