We know that he wanted Harry dead, but do we really know that he 
wanted James dead. James went to try to hold Voldemort of, thus he 
became an obstruction. Isn't it possible that Voldemort killed James 
simply because he was in the way, just like Lily. If I am mistaken 
and there is some evidence that states that Voldemort specifically 
wanted James dead I would really like to know.
