Don't you ever watch TV?

Crime scenes and even arson scenes serve very very well to reconstruct
the events of the crime. The location and position of Lilly's body
would have given clues about how and why she died. 

Crime scene investigators can do an amazingly accurate job.
Frequently, criminals are found and convicted based on crime scene
evidence.

Sorry, I could probably explain this better than I am, but right now
my brain is running at about half speed.
