Hi Phyllis and welcome!
I may well be wrong here but I think Hagrid's name was cleared after 
CoS - this is why he was allowed to become a teacher in PoA if I 
remember rightly. Please tell me if I've got it wrong and it says 
somewhere that he is still considered to have been responsible for 
the first attacks!
