Its not that I wish to stand out as the fool here - but I STILL don't 
understand why Pettigrew would have reason to fear the DE's.

What trap? Pettigrew had no way of knowing that Voldemort would fail 
that night. The DE's must have known that it wasn't Pettigrew's fault 
that things went wrong. Why would they be after him instead of help 
hide and protect him after Sirius was sent to Azkaban?

Well - maybe it's just me - but I just don't get it.
