Well, I don't see how you can be "part of a gang of Slytherins" without
being a Slytherin.  If Snape had not been a Slytherin it would have read
"ran with a gang of Slytherins."  But it says "part of a gang of Slytherins"
which means he *was* a Slytherin unless there's a huge error in the wording.
The only possible way he could've not been in Slytherin his entire time was
if the possibility of resorting is brought into play.  But there's no
evidence that one can be resorted and moved to another house.
