"my kids were watching Peter Pan this 
morning, and it struck me that in order for Wendy and her brothers to 
fly, they have to think "happy thoughts."  I wonder whether this is 
where JKR got the idea for a wizard needing to think of a happy 
thought in order to conjure a patronus?"

Well, it always struck me as such an obvious reference from the first 
I heard of it, it even sounded corny-- But maybe that is because I 
knew the Peter Pan musical soundtrack backwards and forwards when I 
was six years old, so it's not as blatant to everyone else.  I don't 
know if Peter Pan was the first reference, since it seems like a 
classic kind of thinking...
