Hermione's placement

Ok, now I know we do not want to question the all mighty sorting hat,
but....

Why was Hermione placed in Gryffindor instead of Ravenclaw?

Why was the cleverest student in Hogwarts not placed in the cleverest
house?

I can only assume that her courage is the only thing that out matches
her mind, but I was wondering if anyone else has wondered the same.
The only other excuse I can think of is that: JKR has always said that
she wrote Hermione like herself, and that if JKR was to be sorted, she
would want to be in Gryffindor.  So therefore, if A=B, B=C, then A=C,
then Hermione is in Gryffindor.  Those are the only reasons I can come
up with really.  Any other suggestions are greatly welcomed by all.
