Yes. On either side.

The fake Moody had no trouble using Dobby as a cat's paw to pass information 
to Harry, and he didn't even need to use a spell to do it.  Suppose someone 
used the Imperius Curse on one of the Hogwarts house-elves? They may, for 
all we know, be immune to it, but then again they may not.
