I know I'm going to regret this, O Revered Arch L.O.O.N., but don't these two 
paragraphs contradict each other? Snape doesn't hear Lupin's original 
explanation that they created the Map (just before he enters) but *does* hear 
the reprise as you indicated in your original post.
