It's MAGIC, of course! ;)

Seriously. I think to look at it in more detail will be unproductive. 
It's like trying to reason out how a starship works. "Quite nicely,

Yes, but also - the Goblet didn't 'choose' Harry. And as for name 
mixup, I guess if you really wanted to be chosen, you'd put in 
additional identifying info, like your year and house. Make it a bit 
clearer.
