Cowardice is not evil.  If it is, then Ron is evil too for being a
coward around spiders.  Cowardice gets a bad rap because is it is not
the stuff heroes are made of generally.  It does not help along to
cause of good in battling evil.  It just puts its fingers in its ears
and sings to itself till it is all over and then enjoys the rewards of
the others labor.  Yes that is not a good thing, but it does not make
the person innately evil.  It just deems them "not the hero".

I would say the major problem in Fudge is not the coward but the
stubborn blindness.  Unfortunately, that often runs hand in hand with
cowardness, but does this make him evil?  I think it just makes him
pathetic.
