You ever wonder if perhaps much of Neville's troubles might stem from
not getting along with his wand?  ie. Maybe he is trying to use a wand
that was given as a gift, he inherited or otherwise, he didn't pick it
out (or it didn't pick him)? Might turn out someday that he really does
have the ability, but just has the wrong wand?

Could see maybe Ollivander bumping into him one day while he has his
wand out and remarking "Oh dear. That wand isn't suited to you at all! 
Thats the one I sold to your Great Aunt."
