I would think something that made life so much easier for Lupin would be
something that he would have *learned* no matter how difficult the
potion....


I've always thought that perhaps the potion is not only extremely difficult
to make, but requires numerous rare and expensive ingredients - things Lupin
(perpetually unemployed) couldn't afford.
