JKR has been asked about this sort of thing numerous times.  Her reply to 
this question on an interview on the Today Show was this:
"A very famous writer once said, 'A book is like a mirror. If a fool looks 
in, you can't expect a genius to look out.'"

That's my favorite response to that criticism and sums it all up quite 
nicely, I think.
