Oh, I don't know.  Frankly, I think the younger students were just 
blowing smoke and didn't really want to compete in the Tournament.  
That would have required immense talent beyond one's years, at the 
risk of being burned alive by a dragon or skrewt, drowned, etc.  It 
makes some sense that only Fred and George would have tried it, as 
they are Brave Gryffindors.  

It is hard to believe that a student could come up with something 
clever enough to get past anything protection Dumbledore set up.  No, 
it takes a serious psychopath like Fake Moody to handle that.
