Jews were not burned alive in Spain, just expelled. (Not that that's 
very much better.) The problem I'd see with making the comparison, and 
then drawing a conclusion that the wizarding world still secretly 
practices an older religion, is that the vast majority of the 
Conversos' descendants were completely assimilated into the mainstream 
Christian Spanish population. St. Teresa of Avila was from a 3rd 
generation converso family, no?
