snape and sirius as a possible future traitor

Also, in time when one knew not who to trust, why James Potter 
insisted on trusting Sirius (knowing that one of his friends is 
traitor) saying Sirius would rather die than betray him? Turst him 
for Best Man, and godfather to Harry... (I'm inclined to believe he 
would die for Harry if need be). I find Loyalty and Bravery to be 
Sirius' main character traits. How come Sirius became so trusted by 
James? Absolute trust. One thing to trust his *own* life, but wife's 
and son's as well?
