Unfortunately ... I think this is exactly why he might *not* survive.  Losing 
another father-figure would definitely be harder than losing Dumbledore, Hagrid 
or even Ron or Hermione.  Sirius is the closest thing to a parent that Harry 
has now and his one secure link to his real parents.  I can't think of a  
harder scene to write, myself.
