I just lost my post upon hitting send, so am trying again - please
forgive if this shows up twice.

I said:

> >Dude, woah Nelly and what the-?
> >Are we still talking about Ginny or is there some (major)
projection
> >going on here? Who are these "people like Ginny" and how exactly
are
> >they like her (and what did they do to you, you poor thing?)?

Laura replied contritely:
>
> *blushes* okay, I was getting really rant-y there. I'm really,
>*really* sorry if I offended anyone. I needn't have gotten so,
>erm..personal about it all. *hopeful smile* Please don't hate me.
>

Impossible. I gave up hating people for Lent. Seriously, though, I
wasn't upset or anything, just confused and amused. It seemed clear
there was something going on there, and I rather mischeviously teased
when I asked about it - didn't mean to pick on you at all. I'm sorry!

> What I was really trying to say was that from what little
>characterization we have of Ginny in canon, I have come to view her
>as a certain sort of stereotype.

This is the interesting point. What is the stereotype - is there a
certain set of characteristics? A general attitude? Something else
entirely?

>Ignoring any problems I have with people that come under this
>stereotype IRL *sheepish grin*, I was trying to point out that
>Ginny, while she may be *genuinely* a sweet girl, also has many
>flaws that can cause allot of harm to herself and the people around
>her.

But again, which flaws do you mean?

>Many people seem find Ginny to be harmless, but in my opinion, >the
>qualities that make her such a sweet girl can also be dangerous >in
>certain situations.

I know my song is getting rather repetitive (feeling a bit like the
Police, in fact), but... which qualities? What situations? Not to
badger you, but I'd love to know what you mean.

> Furthermore, it kind of irks me when people assume that the
>majority of young girls are like Ginny. I wasn't, and allot of my
>friends weren't either.

While I'm still not sure what you're idea of being "like Ginny" is,
it's pretty clear based on our disparate reactions to her that it's
different from mine, and probably our friend Sandi's as well. Oh
Sandi, dear Sandi - where have you gone? I feel bad putting words
into your mouth, but... I *think* she was just saying that Ginny's
fairly typical, and possibly *more* typical than Hermione. I do
agree with that.

> Also, in case you haven't noticed, I tend to get a little snippish
>when people insult Hermione. *ducks head* Again, I'm sorry, I was
>out of line. If anyone feels the need to have me grovel at their
>feet, I'm all for it.

Laura I hate that I made you feel the need to grovel. Totally
unecessary and I hear it embarrasses Sven, the Coast Guard commander
who was just dispatched here to direct SHIPping traffic. Here - have
a chocolate frog on me and I promise to try not to pick on you so
much next time!
