Impressive list, Pippin.
A lot of Snape-vampire hints, but taken as a whole the evidence is
ambiguous and lets us draw any conclusions we want.
Well, I admit that all these vampire references might easily be a red
herring--one more example of Snape being not what he seems.
However, I like to think that Snape indeed is a part-vampire. Wasn't
it your theory that one of his "grandmuzzers" came from Transylvania?
Sounds good to me.
Why I want Snape to be a vampire: just because of morbid curiosity. I
can't help wondering what would happen if Snape's non-human origins
were revealed and fat would *really* hit the frying-pan. Hagrid in
this situation drunk and sobbed for a week, Lupin quietly resigned, so
what would Snape do?
One more thing: JKR seems to treat the vampire theme differently from
the themes of the other known HP part-humans. Hagrid turned out to be
a half-giant without any foreshadowing at all; Lupin and Fleur's
part-humanness (humanity?:)) was revealed in the same book they had
first appeared (PoA and GoF respectively), but look what happens with
vampires: numerous foreshadowings throughout the four books and still
no vampire appearance. A lot of suspense, I would say. Might it
possibly mean that vampire topic will turn to be very important for
the overall plot of the series?
If Snape turns out to be a vampire, than his life story might be a
sort of opposite of Voldie's life story and in line with the main
moral statement JKR makes in the series: that our choices, not our
origins define what we are. Tom Riddle, 100% human, handsome and
talented, chose to take a dark path and became a full-fledged vampire:
he maintains his livelihood using others' blood (drinking unicorn
blood in HPSS, using Harry's blood in GoF). Meanwhile Snape, a
vampire, and therefore considered evil by cultural default, chose a
right path and ended up not only being a character milllions of fans
are crazy about, but also able to see his reflection in a mirror (GoF)
:D.
Cheers, Ana.
