Well, while I agree with you about Hermione, your reasons seem to
suggest that we could consider Dudley to be in an enviable position
as well. He's the product of loving (at least in HIS case) parents,
he has what seems to be plenty of money... he's plenty confident...
and *he* is popular with at least a big group of thugs. Sure, he's
got his problems. I mean, he's fat. He's got a freak cousin. He had
to have a pig's tail removed. But then again, Hermione had buck
teeth, had to be changed back from being a cat, and has been petrified
by a basilisk. ;)

Okay, okay. I guess I should be serious, but looking back over those
arguments, maybe I _was_ being serious (if only I could be Sirius.
No. If only I could *have* Sirius...). I mean, as far as we can
tell, the Dursleys, apart from the few discussions that they may be
killed because Harry needs to realize how much they actually mean to
him, are in relatively little danger from Voldemort at this point.
Sure, they're muggles... I understand that. I have a feeling that
they will be targeted at some point. Same with Hermione's parents
(and Hermione herself - which still makes her ties with Dudley without
taking into account her enviable attendance at Hogwarts). Perhaps
they're a little more at risk because of their supposed protective
qualities surrounding Harry, but since Hermione hangs out with Harry
all the time, she's just as at risk.

I didn't mean this to be a comparison between D's and Hermione's
positions in life... I guess it was just a "stream of consciousness
(sp?)" post for me today.

Jen (coming out of lurkdom on the main list)
