Elkins just did a remarkable job of analyzing the variants of
the "George" theory. However, while Elkins is providing us with in-
depth literary critiques of these theories, many of us on the list
desperately need the Cliff Notes version.
To that effect, perhaps the authors of each of the various theories
could provide their basic, stripped down, credo? What I am
envisioning is that each of us would leave the proceeding brief
credos on the thread, so that when all the authors have weighed in,
we'd have a complete list of all the theories.
I don't think we should debate the theories on this thread -- just
summarize them.
My own theory is "EWWWW", also known as "TEWW EWWWWW to be TREEEW."
It starts off by assuming that LOLLIPOPS (= Snape loved Lily) is
true. It then adds that Voldy knew Snape loved Lily, and planned to
save Lily so that she could be Snape's wife/lover/whatever.
(Presumably Snape would give her a love potion or something.)
However, the thought of Lily's child being killed, and Lily never
having her own personality again, horrified Snape and made him
realize how evil Voldy was, making him (re)turn to the Light Side.
