I can't speak for all umpteen million of us, but those of us in the United
States who are also Anglophiles tend to be sulky when we find out that we've
missed out on the 'authentic experience' of a book because it has been
edited. I'm 100% American citizen, and I really ended up peeved when I
learned how much had been changed. The title really was unnecessary, but for
someone like myself, any changes were unnecessary.

So, 'dumbing down' really only qualifies in the change of the title. That
implied that Americans aren't literate enough to understand just what the
Philosopher's Stone is supposed to be. The rest of it, at least on my part,
is nothing but frustration over what we see as unnecessary changes.

Don't even get me *started* about the changes in the movie! Why on *earth*
did they have Hagrid say he got Fluffy from 'an Irish chappie'? It ruins the
hidden joke *completely*...okay...<sheepish look>...I'll stop now...
