*Somewhere* in SS/PS, *someone* is talking about how each wizard's wand is suited to its owner and then goes on to say something to the effect of "of course, you'll never get such good results with another wizard's wand..." Which implies that you don't *have* to use a wand suited to you, but it helps quite a bit. Perhaps this is why Ron has such trouble in school before he gets a new one (his feather won't fly, etc.). Also, in some ways (and I could be *incredibly* off on this one) Ron and his brothers seem quite a bit alike (all in Gryffindor, etc.). Of course, I don't mean their personalities, per se, but something harder to explain.. *sigh* I'm too lazy to try to get what I'm thinking into words..anyway, my point is, perhaps the wand Ron had to begin with (wasn't it Charlie's? can't remember) was at least *semi*-suited to him. I mean, the old one and the new one (which I assume he got first-hand) did both have unicorn-hair cores. I can't remember if they were the same kind of wood or not...darn memory.
