Actually, it's the poison gasses the canary is detecting. It would 
react much quicker than a man. They'd all probably die at the same 
time if air simply ran out.

Now, to be totally stupid: where does Neville turn into a canary? I 
read all four books, twice, and don't remember that at all! Someone 
help me out!
