Thanks, Judy! That answers my question about what is so mysterious 
about Snape's characterization that fans read this character 
differently than the author (it seems to me) intended them to, at 
least at this stage in the series. Snape is not only interesting, 
complex and multi-dimensional character, he is so alive that seems to 
get from under his creator's control. That's why I find him so 
fascinating.
