  As far as I remember, 500 people are enough to maintain
genetic diversity in a separate group. 22000 you have
counted are definitely enough, especially with regular blood
injections from muggles (ah, and they are regular, not
occasional as someone has already wrote, at least it's the
impression I got from the books).
