1)good guy who's battling to be good against his (shorthand, not
stereotyping!) Slytherin tendencies
who
2)gives up being good and tries to be bad out of pique and to get the
recognition he never feels he's had
and who then ends up
3) with a guilt thing (which is often displayed as anger) after playing at
being bad doesn't work and who doesn't like being 'good' to boot.

Can I maybe add another theory to your list, my own personal favourite.

Was he ever a true DE in the first place?

Did he really do all the bad stuff that that implies like murder and so on?

Was he possibly a double agent for Dumbledore et al right from the beginning and the
only reason he's so jaded is partly from not enjoying school (an outsider possibly, or
one who felt he had to bully others to get any kind of attention) and the things that he
has seen in the course of his 'secret agent' time and how he's been treated since?

Olwyn (who's determined to prove somehow that Snape is completely worthy of our adoration)
