Did he not know at this stage that LV was a slytherin?  i.e. the man
that killed his parents, and attempted to kill him?  And left him with
an early childhood of misery at the Dursley's?  Failing all that, at
least the alleged "fact" that the DE's were Slytherins, and that the
DE's "master" had killed his parents blah blah blah.

hardly positive resons for HP to accept Slytherin; certainly reason
enough for a 11YO to NOT want to choose Slytherin?
