My opinion is that McGonagall still feels the transformation pain, but
because she's
been doing it for years and is so good, it's been reduced from it's bone
twisting intensity
down to the level of ripping off a bandaid or sticking plaster eg. Ouch, but
I got over it :)
There is nothing intrinsic in a magical transformation that makes it not
hurt. Unless there
is a specific part of the spell that deals with it IMO. Just being
"magical" is not reason
enough.
Although on the other hand you could say the only reason a lycanthropic
transformation causes pain is because it's a Curse....hmm now I've confused
myself ;)
