I have the impression from the books that Hogwarts was considered the 
only relatively safe place in the Wizarding World during Voldy's last 
reign of terror.  If the parents of the students know what's going on 
at the end of GoF (most probably don't), they probably rest easier 
while the kids are at school.  The muggle-born kids probably don't 
even tell their parents about Voldy and somehow I doubt that Hogwarts 
is the type of school that sends the parents letters to keep them 
informed about events at the school.
