I don't think that they know anything I just think that they were saying 
"fanged" for no reason other than to make fun of the other students. After 
all, there are a lot of things that are fanged, such as vampires, dogs, etc. 
It probably would have been better on Rowling's part to say "horned" or 
something else to that extent, but I don't think that the statement was made 
to imply that the twins knew anything.
