The ever so evil "Yahoomort" ate this email last time, so I'm sending it again. A little out of date, but here goes anyway...

<<<This statement caught my attention. Has anyone else noticed some of
the similarities between Star Wars and Harry Potter? How the infant

them to learn about their powers (the Force/Magic).>>>

I highly recommend reading Magical Worlds of Harry Potter by David Colbert, especially the chapter entitled: What makes Harry a Universal Hero? pg. 155-166

a quote: "Harry's adventures also follow a familiar pattern. Scholar Joseph Campbell wrote at length about 'The Hero with a Thousand Faces', the common character central to cultures all over the world. From Ulysses of ancient Greek myth to Luke Skywalter of Star Wars, these heroes and their legends bear a striking similarity. Harry makes it a thousand and one." pg. 158

Colbert goes on to describe this journey in it's three main stages and the common themes within those stages and how they relate to Harry.

I think the reason it sounds familiar is just as Campbell tells us...this hero archetype has themes that are common with all great hero stories. I know that JKR has said things like "I'm laughing...that would be a bit Star Wars, wouldn't it?" when questioned about Harry being related to Voldemort (here's the link to that interview). But I think Luke and Harry are more alike than JKR is willing to admit because of this common hero theme.

Here is a link from a Nov. 2001 article entitled: "Harry Potter: Episode One" that does an excellent job comparing the two heroes, atleast better than I can, as it's been a couple of years since I've seen SW episode 4-5-6, and I haven't even seen Episode 2 yet! (I'm too damn busy reading HPFGU messages and fan fic...oh well...not complaining, though!)
