I read most of it. But something I've learned in my short time out
here is that the books can be manipulated (usually more accurately
than the article) to fit many different political points of view.
Pro-gay: Lupin's struggle with being a werewolf is a metaphor
for "being in the closet"
Anti-gay: His danger to others is a metaphor for the prejudice
against gays around children and he "should stay in the damn closet."
Books are Feminist: Hermione a well-developed character.
Books are Anti-woman: Hermione only female character worth anything.
Only other significant female characters are patriarchal slaves (i.e.
housewives.)
The Dementors can be looked at as metaphors for the death penalty.
The entire series has a strong Nature vs. Nuture debate going on and
the Muggle-born/pureblood debate is just a discussion of racism.
Like I said though, usually the points are more accurate than in that
article. You skewered it very nicely, I thought.
