First, my apologies if this has been discussed in the past, but I couldn't
resist. I was climbing out of the shower, and suddenly it was the whole
light bulb thing. Here we go:
Quirrell has a way with trolls, right? That's how he got the troll into the
school on Halloween night. A troll is also his contribution to the guarding
of the Sorcerer/Philosopher's Stone. So, who knows about the various
protections? Surely someone has to know. Does Dumbledore know? Since he
is the one who arranged it all. If he doesn't, how on earth did Quirrell
sneak a troll into the school to guard the stone?
Anyway, assuming Dumbledore does know what each of the spells/etc. guarding
the stone, doesn't he wonder about it when Quirrell comes running in
screaming about a troll, fainting on the floor and all. Why is Quirrell
suddenly frightened of trolls? Which of course, he isn't, but he acts like
he is. I'd be a little suspicious of that.
So, which does this mean:
a) No one what knows the spells, enchantments, etc. are (including
Dumbledore), so it doesn't matter.
b) Dumbledore knows Quirrell has a way with trolls, and this is when he
begans to suspect him.
c) Dumbledore knows Quirrell has a way with trolls and this theory supports
the prior questions some here have raised about Dumbledore's motives.
I don't have a clue, myself, just thought about Quirrell and the trolls.
Hoping it's either a or b!
