Actually, that sounds like a fair explanation, although I don't think
there's any specific canon (so far) to support it.
But Gringotts exchanges Muggle money for wizard money (CoS)
and Hermione gets the Daily Prophet delivered to her over the
summer holidays (PoA), so it seems likely the wizard world has
learned to transfer goods and services to and from the Muggle
world when needed.
Well...if there's a mail exchange office, then why did the Weasely's
send Harry a letter on their own? I mean, they could have written
him normally, given the letter to Errol, and had Errol take it to one
of those exchange places so that it could be sent to Harry. And I
always assumed Hermione had the Daily Prophet delivered to her like
any normal young witch would: by owl. Hagrid has an owl delivering
him the Daily Prophet in SS/PS.
