No other sceario possible? Oh, really, how about this?
R: Mum, we better send that letter by muggle post. After my phone call
Harry's already in trouble, we don't want to make it worse.
M: Well, if your going to send it by muggle post, then you'll have to
figure out how to do it yourself, because I don't have a clue.
R: You need those sticky things.... you know the sticky pictures they
put on there. I've seen them.
M: Well, I guess you'll have to go buy some sticky pictures then. Let
see, I know we have some muggle money here some where.
(digs through the house for 20 minutes and finds a 10 pound note stuck
in a vase.)
Do you think this will be enough?
(Ron shrugs, and walks down to the muggle post office.)
R: I need some of those sticky pictures you put on letters.
POST: Which kind do you need?
R: What have you got?
(Postman pulls out several sample sheets of stamps.)
Well, I've got 10 pounds, give me some of each.
(Ron walks back home, and he and Molly have great fun putting all the
pretty sticky pictures on their letter.)
Back to the original subject of the Dursley's and owl post. The
Dursleys understand how owl post works. They forced Harry to keep
Hedwig locked up so he couldn't send any owl posts.
Also, Hedwig is extremely smart, she doesn't just wait for letter, she
flys out and gets them. I believe when Hermione was in France, Hedwig
showed up at Hermione's location. I really should look that up, but
there are a few examples of Hedwig going to people as a way of
encouraging them to send letters to Harry.
Hedwig might just show up at the Dursley's at Christmas time, and the
Dursley's put a toothpick in an envelope and send it off, just to get
rid of Hedwig.
