I was looking at the last feast of the year in GoF. Harry is still suffering mental anguish, and he looks over at Snape who is looking at him. There isn't a mention of that sneering hatred that Snape always seems to throw at Harry. This time, Harry isn't quite able to figure out what Snape's look is all about.
I think Snape is having some new thoughts about Harry. He started out thinking thatHarry put his own name in the Goblet - and then discovers that this wasn't so.
So what was Snape thinking as he looked at Harry? Was he considering his life debts? Was he seeing Harry as more than an adventuous kid who likes to break rules and take dares? Was he thinking about his role with Voldemort and how he has to consider Harry? Was he thinking about the One BiG Issue that gets skirted in all four books: why is Harry so important.
Or was he sitting there thinking about that new potion that he's been working on. You know the one: the one that required him to get all those new slimey and disgusting things in the glass jars in his office; the one that he's going to offer to Voldemort in the quest for immortality. The potion (with the little flaw in it) that assures Snape that Voldemort won't kill him when he finally meets him as double agent.
What was Snape thinking....
