While Dumbledore didn't know that Voldemort was playing parasite on
Quirrel, he had to know that in order to even get into Hogwarts to
traverse these challenges, Voldemort would have to have help.
Dumbledore never deluded himself into thinking the creepy guy was
dead, but if he wasn't sneaking up on good wizards and barbecuing
them, then he had to be either hurt, powerless, or both. And this
being the case, he'd need help in getting into the castle.

I missed round one of this conversation, but it seems to me that
there had to be a way to get to the stone so that Dumbledore himself
or Flammel could get the thing when they wanted it. Otherwise, why
didn't they just destroy it to begin with? So if they put it at
Hogwarts, the only safe place where, in theory, Voldemort cannot go,
they set it up so that while not just anyone can get it, it can be
gotten when needed.
(I suppose they could have set it up so only Dumbledore could get it,
but what if Voldemort or a follower of his took the polyjuice potion?)

:::Shrugs::: I could be way wrong, but there ya have my thoughts. :)
