Harry Potter might be magic series, or it might be "provoking arguments
about class, gender, race and Freudian sex" series, but it's still about
school.
And this is an ultimate school moment - to speak about your least favourite
teacher just to find him standing behind you. I suppose it'd happened to
most of us?
I agree, it's a really good moment.
BTW, for all the supposed immaturity of Snape, he seemed to handle it quite
well, no?
My impression was that he dismissed it in a very mature "I know exactly what
you think about me and I could not care less" way and moved on to the
important stuff - the flying car.

Something else that I didn't understand from the recent discussions - why
people keep talking about his life debts in plural? Surely the debt to James
was repaid in the first year? Without his intervention Harry would be dead
long before Hermione had a chance to knock Quirrell down.
