<<<<I was rereading book 1 SS, and a line jumped out at me. I recall
reading post awhile back about Ron's Divining ablities. This quote
caught me off guard because I don't remember it being there before.
The quote takes place right after Binns Exam ( I left my book at
work. :o( ) Ron says Neville will play Quidditch for England before
Hagird tells anyone how to get past Fluffy. Well if Ron's a diviner
as you claim then Neville "grows out" of his forgetfulness and
becomes a quidditch player.>>>>

I noticed that part too!, except I don't think you've got the quote
quite right. I haven't got the book handy either, but I'm pretty sure
it says that Neville will play Quidditch for England before Hagrid
_betrays Dumbledore_, which makes it a little more broad.

It sounds to me like one of those innocent lines that could mean
nothing, but then end up forshadowing things to come. I don't think
Hagrid could ever _willingly_ betray Dumbledore (which I think is
implied in the statement), because it's just not in him. Plus, he
practically worships the man, always saying how great he is and
coming to his defense when Karkaroff spits at his feet. It would make
for an interesting and unexpected plot twist, though. That one line
is part of the reason why I feel Neville will be the next Quidditch
captain for Gryffindor - a stepping stone for playing for England.

I could see Hagrid betraying Dumbledore accidentally, but never
considered the part where he tells the trio Fluffy's secret as a
betrayal...it seemed as if Dumbledore wanted them to try getting the
stone themselves, although I don't think he could have made Hagrid
tell them like he did - that was a slip of the tongue.

first post!)
