mentions the "eighth book" and her preference for including a
glossary rather than repeating previous plot details:

There were plenty of stories along those lines at the time, including
on the BBC site, Yahoo and several others.
I would like to refresh everyone's memories about the circumstances:
the BBC put out a press release in mid-December with a few tidbits
from their forthcoming "Omnibus" special about JKR (which was
transmitted on 28th December, and later shown on the A&E Network in
the USA). Several news media put one and one together from the press
release and made three (ie sentences to the effect of: "Harry and Ron
will get interested in girls" and "Hermione lightens up" were made to
mean that "Harry would get interested in Hermione").
Perhaps our friendly Goat (and a few other people maintaining lists
of links to interviews) could add a proviso when mentioning that
link...
In any case, that is interview in which JKR talked about the matters
under debate here (I mentioned a second source - I *think* it was a
British Sunday magazine interview around the same time; this might in
fact have been culled from the TV programme).
I must admit that I find it a bit strange that 7 months down the
line, nobody, but nobody, has done a complete transcript of the
programme and put it online. I know there are a few sites with
pictures of *that* page from JKR's notebook, but that's not the only
thing worthy of note in that programme! I'd do such a transcript
myself, if I only had a copy (my VCR wasn't working that night and
the programme's never been repeated here in the UK).
P.S. It's quite strange - the TV is currently showing a repeat of a
November chat show, in which Robbie Coltrane is talking about
HP&PS "which came out yesterday"). :-)
