I also subscribe to the theory that Dumbledore will probably die at the
end of the sixth book. He's obviously necessary now, to be Harry's
protector until Harry becomes a more mature wizard. I agree with
everything nplyon said:

himself and his powers. Right now, Harry has Dumbledore's protection.
I personally think that Dumbledore's death would give Harry the
determination and strength he needs to overcome Voldemort. I also get
the feeling that Harry will have to take on the role of leader and
protector and that this is why he's so central to the books. If
Dumbledore really were the one who was going to defeat Voldemort, there
is no need for Harry's presence. Harry is the "Chosen One" and to me
this means that he has to be the person to lead the resistence against
Voldemort. Right now, he's a follower of Dumbledore's and I don't
think that this role allows him to live up to his full potential.<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I agree that Dumbledore's death will prove a major turning point for
Harry, and probably spur him on even more against Voldemort.. it's not
that Voldemort's having killed his parents isn't a terrible enough
thing, but it seems like it's too far in the past. Dumbledore's death
might provide fresh motivation. As far as Harry's mortality goes... I
also think that he is likely to die at the end of the seventh book. It
would almost be weird for him to live on after defeating Voldemort.
Honestly, wouldn't the rest of his life be terribly boring? I also
think it would be a lovely full-circle thing, from "The Boy Who Lived"
to "The Boy Who Died." Not that I'm cheering for Harry to die, but... I
feel like he and Voldemort are so inextricably linked that if one of
them dies, the other goes too (I have this whole theory about the blood
and the wands... anyway). I guess the idea about having him go on to
lead the Wizarding World is also viable... but I think having him die
would actually be a better ending (ducks heavy objects being chucked at
her).

~ Aloha, who even though she thinks Harry will die at the end of the
series, will be in tears for weeks if it actually happens :/
