I don't see that as a remotely redeemable thing.  The trio was happy 
to just go off walking itno the forest until someone came in & told 
them it was safe.  Draco, seeing this, decided to make sure they 
knew exactly how much trouble they were in.  I don't think he did it 
to be nice, I think he did it b/c he wanted them to be scared out of 
their wits for their "mudblood" friend.  He knew he was safe, he 
knew they weren't and he wanted to make sure they knew it, not 
because he's nice, but because he wanted to gloat.
